Bible Verses for Married Couples (Relationship Tips from Bible Verses)

Marriage is God's design for man. So, where else would we look for instructions (if there is any) but the Bible? Here are some of what the Bible says on dealing with relationships- especially between man and wife.

1. Communicate. Communicate with love.
  • A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.   Proverbs 15:1
  • Reckless words pierce like a sword but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18

2. Be honest to your partner.
  • An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.  Proverbs 24:26
  • The Lord detest lying lips but he delights in men who are truthful. Proverbs 12:22

3. Resolve conflicts peacefully. Forgive each other's mistakes.
  • In anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are angry.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.                          Ephesians 4:26- 32
  • Love is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.          1 Corinthians 13:5b
4. Love, Honor, and Respect Each Other.
  • Wives submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22
  • Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.   Ephesians 5:25
  • Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. 1Peter 4:8

5. Stay faithful to your partner.
  • You shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14
  • Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral. Hebrews 13:4

6. Consider your partner as a gift from God.
  • But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Mark 10: 6-7
  • Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. Proverbs 19:14
